Dr. Mathias was born in the Atlanta area and grew up in Stone Mountain, GA. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the University of Georgia, he went on to study synthetic organic chemistry and earned a Masters Degree. He is the author of numerous research articles in this field. After a brief time of serving as a research and development chemist in polymer technology, he matriculated at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA. He excelled there and was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha order. Upon completing his medical degree, he and his wife Dr. Gretchen Mathias moved to Greenville in 2002 for residency training and adopted Greenville as their permanent home.
Prior to beginning private practice, Dr. Mathias was a hospitalist and has been in private practice in Greenville since 2007. The joy of Dr. Mathias’s life are his family and practicing medicine.
Dr. Stone is a native South Carolinian who attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. and obtained his undergraduate BS degree in Biology and Medical Technology. He entered the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and received his MD degree in 1986. He completed his family medicine residency in Greenville, S.C. between 1986-89. After completion of his residency he entered active military duty with the United States Air Force and served overseas at Hahn AFB in Germany during Operation Desert Storm. Upon returning stateside, he directed the family medicine clinic at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, N.C. In August of 1992, a desire to pursue family medicine in a rural practice setting led Dr. Stone to establish Saint Matthews Family Practice in Saint Matthews, S.C. Doctor and Mrs. Stone operated this solo family medicine practice for 16 years and were recognized by the South Carolina Rural Health Association as the Outstanding Rural Practice of the Year in 2004. During these years this office trained many family nurse practitioners, physician assistants and medical students on family medicine rotations. Dr. Stone returned to Greenville S.C. in October 2009 to practice family medicine and later joined the Greenville Health System Family Medicine Residency Faculty fulltime in June 2011. Dr. Stone received the Family Medicine Teaching Award for 2014-2015 given by the graduating resident class. He now looks forward to living in Upstate South Carolina and returning to private practice at Covenant Internal Medicine.
Dr. Lidia Baldea is a Primary Care physician at Bon Secours Health System, Covenant Primary Care. She is a graduate of Wesleyan University, in Middletown, CT, where she majored in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and Neuroscience and Behavior. Dr. Baldea attended Sackler School of Medicine, and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Greenville Hospital System in 2007. Her goal is to help patients achieve optimum health so they can enjoy life to the fullest, to get healthy and stay healthy. She finds it very rewarding and fulfilling to be able to motivate her patients to achieve better health by quitting smoking, lowering their cholesterol, or being more active. Dr. Baldea has a special interest in preventative medicine, diabetes management, and geriatric care. Dr. Baldea is married to Jeremy Rollison, and has two children ages 4 and 6. They enjoy spending time outdoors, playing soccer, watching college football and staying involved in church activities.
Heather was born in Ohio, but spent most her life growing up in Chattanooga, TN. She spent three years at a private university in Chattanooga before transferring to Union College in Lincoln, NE to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant studies. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2004. After graduation, she moved to Guam to work as a missionary in a medical clinic for six months. Her time was divided between urgent care, family practice and women’s health. She spent 5 years working in a large family practice office in Chattanooga before meeting her husband, Rob, and moving to the Greenville area in early 2011. Prior to joining Dr. Mathias at Covenant Internal Medicine, she worked with a local endocrinologist gaining specialized training in diabetes and thyroid disorders. Heather’s passions include her family, being involved in her church, practicing medicine, community service, and traveling.
